Say you were a dedicated ski bum and you really wanted more snow to fall on North Star Mountain? What to do? If you’re James “Archie” Archibald, you summon the Norse ski god Ullr and build a bonfire, invite all your friends and burn old wooden skis as a sacrifice to the gods. Will it work? That remains to be seen, but the crowd enjoying the blazing bonfire at the Kimberley Alpine Resort on Saturday evening seemed to believe anything was possible.
