Maverick Riding Club

Dear Editor,

Idlewild Park is considered to be one of the finest parks in the Cranbrook area. The City of Cranbrook and RDEK have provided many different venues at Idlewild that provide numerous outdoor activities that appeal to the many users of the park.

Over the years a number of these venues have fallen into disrepair, one of them being the horse riding arena situated on 13th Street South. The Maverick Riding Club recognized that many people enjoy the use of the riding arena, and as a group, took the lead and returned it back into a safe and user friendly facility.

The project was started in the fall of 2008 and is now ready for the 2009 riding season. The old arena was dismantled and rebuilt with new boards, posts, bleachers, gates and a water system. The footing has been screened and more sand added. The arena is now wider and longer to accommodate more user groups. An announcing booth has been constructed. Electrical and lighting have been installed. The original cost of the project would have been approximately $40, 000. Without the help of the local community and businesses this project would not have been feasible.

Words will never express our gratitude to the many supporters for providing everyone with such a fine riding facility for all to use. We could not have accomplished this without all of your help.

Your generosity is really appreciated.

Thank you!

The Maverick Riding Club
