To the person who found my husband’s wallet;
On Saturday, July 11th my husband and I set off to Cranbrook to deposit his recent earnings into our bank. We stopped for gas in Marysville, and that is where my husband lost his wallet containing $1,015 in cash. We never have cash but on this rare occasion we did.
We did not realize the wallet was gone until we got to Cranbrook at around 4 p.m. and when we called back to the gas station in Marysville, the wallet was nowhere to be found.
We were absolutely sick about losing the money, and to the person who found it, I would like to let you know a bit more about us.
Although you obviously know my husband’s name and our address (since all of my husband’s ID was in the wallet), I would like to tell you more. Our names are Kim and Jason Cox. We live in Kimberley, and although I have recently become unemployed, my husband (the most honest and finest person I know) works incredibly hard to support us and our young son, as well as child support payments to our two other children. It is very hard to make ends meet on one income, but we have been managing and are trying to sell some things to help us along.
That money was for our mortgage payment (due the next day) and a stack of bills (several overdue). Of course there are things we would love to buy, my husband has been without a wedding band for some time now as his broke, but the money was needed to pay bills.
Every $100 bill in that wallet that day is represented by calluses on the hands of my hard working husband; earned through renovations and building that he does locally as a self employed carpenter. While losing the wallet was Jason’s doing we honestly believed that any good person that found the money tucked in behind his picture ID with our current address would return it to us. After all, choosing to take money from someone when you know fully who it belongs to is really no different than robbing our home. We were sure we would get the money back and happily reward the person who got it back to us. We believed in the goodness of people.
I am deeply saddened that you chose to keep our money. I do appreciate that someone did find the wallet (with everything shoved in one compartment EXCEPT the cash), and turned it into Kimberley police. Thank you for returning it to us.
To the person that took the money. If your conscience ever catches up to you, or if you have any of it left we can be reached at 427-9392. Our address is in the phone book. We still have bills waiting, and we would really appreciate the honesty and the chance to keep my husband from working evenings and weekends all summer to make up for that day.
Sincerely, Kimberly(and Jason) Cox, Kimberley, kimcox1@telus.net
