Lobster Fest 2010

Break out the bibs and melted butter

The Kimberley Rotary Club is always willing to try new fundraising ideas, and they may have come up with a real winner - Lobster Fest.

On August 28, Rotary will be flying in live lobsters from Nova Scotia and 150 lucky people will be chowing down at Centennial Hall.

“We're calling it Lobster in the Mountains,” said Rotarian Scott Saito, who is heading up the organizing committee. “We are hoping this will be an annual event.”

The event on August 38 is something of a dry run — smaller than it will be once its established.

“We want this to be one of Kimberley's festivals and we're looking at holding it in early June next year. The idea is to grow it so we're feeding lobster to four to five hundred people in one of the arenas. This is a dry run to figure out all the logistics.”

Tickets are $65 and include all the lobster you can eat, corn on the cob, salads and a bun. And lots of butter, Saito promises.

There will also be a silent auction. Tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce, the Royal Bank and from any Rotarian. They are half sold already, so act quickly if you'd like to join the lobster feed. There will be no door sales, as the lobster has to be ordered prior to the event. If there is any left over it will be auctioned off at the end of the evening.

Money raised will go to the ongoing Rotary scholarship fund at Selkirk and to the local Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Saito says as long he's involved in the Lobster Fest, he wants the money to stay in Kimberley.
