Black Bear to the rescue

This summer Kimberleyites and their many visitors have been blessed to have live theatre in their City. This happened through a group of generous souls who love live drama and who formed the Stageworks Theatre Company.

The directors are Lisa McKay, Liz Adler, Brigitte Franyo, Jane Foreman, Ty Turner, Michael Jones and Joanne Wilkinson. They sought and received permission from the City of Kimberley to use the vacant lot across from Black Bear Video to present their Summer 2010 one act plays.

They were joined by local thespians Nola De, Cameron Loman, Sioban Staplin, Breanne Agnew, Sarah Parnall, Myra Farquhar, Kay Linley, Brad Perrin, Lorne Wright,mMarg & Dave Biggs, Jeanette, and Brodie Peterson. Adding their talents to the cast were Susan Hanson and Tracy McGuire of Cranbrook.

Stage hands for the productions included Chelsea and Matt Hanson, Jim Foreman, Molly Bradford and Francesca Royall. Platzl advertiser was Pat Oslund.

Fighting Mother Nature was a given and most productions succeeded but on the closing night of the Funeral Tea, Mother Nature won when the local skies opened. However, it was Black Bear to the rescue! Blackbear Video invited the cast and their patrons to seek shelter in their premises and the show went on! All concerned were grateful to them for their warm generosity.

The final plays of the season will be offered on August 17, 18 and 19th when “In the Tank” and “The Duck Variations” will be performed.

The Stageworks Theatre Company extend their gratitude to their sponsors: City ofKimberley, Off Centre Players, Chamber of Commerce, Blackbear Video, Ty Turner, Green Earth Recycling, Hospital Auxiliary Thrift store and Sandy Kay.
