Farmers Market, Kootenay Ice and the United Way

What do the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market, Kootenay Ice

Hockey and the Cranbrook Kimberley United Way have

in common? They all bring people together around a

sense of community!

For those of you who have been to the Saturday morning

market you’ll know that not only is there great entertainment

and an excellent selection of local home grown

food and creative crafts, there is also a real sense of community.

Neighbours and friends meet and exchange

news, enjoy local talent, and leave with a renewed sense

of pride and belonging. For me it’s a summertime version

of going to Kootenay Ice games in winter where you

meet friends and neighbors, get great entertainment, and

leave with a renewed sense of community!

So how does the United Way fit in? The Cranbrook

Kimberley United Way and its volunteers have a tent at

the market and raise money through the generosity of

Hot Shots Cafe and two local artisans, Fallen Wood and

Touch The Earth Gem Soaps. The Kootenay Ice Hockey

Club donates all of the proceedings from their annual

Blue and White Game to the United Way. In turn the

United Way uses the money they get from the market

and the Ice to help our friends and neighbours in need

right here in our communities!

If you haven’t been to the Cranbrook Farmer’s market

you still have four Saturdays to take it in as it goes until

September 18. The Kootenay Ice Blue and White game is

Monday September 6 (Labour Day Holiday) from 11 a.m.

to 1:30 p.m. and the cost to see our future stars is a fivedollar

donation. Come out and enjoy these special days

and leave knowing you’ve helped contribute to a sense

of community in more ways than one!

United Way of Cranbrook and Kimberley
