It is the bane of many a Kimberley skier's existence. It can be congested, and sometimes icy. Novice skiers find it intimidating. It is of course, the ski bridge over Gerry Sorensen Way.

As the only access to the base from the entire mountain, skiers funnel over the bridge and down to the quad chair.

The Kimberley Alpine Resort Master Plan mentions the possibility of a second bridge when skier numbers indicate the need is there, however a new plan is afoot.

At their regular meeting this week, Kimberley City Council approved a plan to by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies to create a ski out trail behind the North Star Mountain Chalets.

Coun. Mick Henningson, chair of the Planning and Development Committee, explained that the route would run from the back of the maintenance area at the old base, behind the North Star condos and come around to the top of the Owl beginner's slope and down to the quad.

“Since I don't think we're going to get another ski bridge, this is what RCR proposed,” Henningson said. “We also want right of way for a summer trail.”

“It should be a nice easy run out, and for those terrified to go over the ski bridge, you won't have to now,” said Mayor Jim Ogilvie. “We've asked RCR for this ever since they took over.”
