Kimberley on pace for solid construction year

While it’s still a far cry from the heady pace of five or so years ago, when construction values were topping $30 million for a year, things haven’t completely ground to a halt either.

As summarized in a report by Manager of Planning Services Troy Pollock, Kimberley is quietly moving ahead to hit budget for 2010. The City had budgeted what they felt was a conservative amount for total construction values in 2010.

According to Coun. Kieran Hickey things are looking pretty good.

“We budgeted $8 million and we’re at $5.5 at the end of July, so it’s looking good.”

And according to Pollock’s report there is plenty of ongoing activity, development-wise, in Kimberley.

Projects include:

• Sullivan Landing (OKKO communities) - a 60 unit development above 5th Avenue. Final approval of the subdivision plan should be completed next week. Road construction and utility installation is underway.

• Homesteads - an 11 unit Phase of Canadian Mountain Cabins. Final approval of that subdivision plan is expected in September.

• Marysville Lions seniors housing - six units. The City expects a building permit application this month.

• Kimberley Lion’s seniors housing - 43 units on Church Avenue. The City is expecting submission of the development permit application soon.

• Mark Creek Landing - 30 lots on Rotary Drive. Going through the process of zoning change to R-12 small lot, single and two-family. Hearing is September 13, 2010.

• Kimberley Crossing - up to 65 units, mix of two family and multiple family dwellings. The zoning bylaw has had first reading. Hearing is September 13.

• The Summit at Taylor’s Mill - mixed use development (500 units plus other uses).

In addition there are upcoming city land sales on the horizon including the Light Industrial Park in Marysville, which is still undergoing environmental site investigation; and the Marysville Benchlands, also undergoing environmental site investigation.

The City will also be opening up for bid sale of Resort Lands, Lot 1 is 15.7 hectares between the Nordic ski trails and Trickle Creek Golf Course and Lots B,C & D Resort Lands, 3.4 hectares between Gerry Sorensen Way and Dogwood Drive.
