Kimberley, the way it was

Many candidate municipal election

When the hour came for nominations to close today at 1 p.m. local time, it was revealed that two candidates will be in the contest for Mayor.

These are Clifford Swan, the veteran Mayor, who has held the office since incorporation in 1944 and Walter Henry Barber, who was a candidate for Alderman last year.

Candidates for Alderman are Mrs. Violet Winnifred Burrin, Garnet Coulter, Harold Sigfred Nordlund, Michael John Bonner, Jack Eckersley, Arthur Bryant and Harold Ernest Herman. Three seats are vacant.

There two vacancies to be filled for school trustees. M.A. Thomas is seeking re-election and Reginald Walter Hoditch and Eric Whistlecroft are also candidates.

On Thursday next, the voters of Kimberley must decide who of the above will conduct their civic and school business. It is hoped that more people will take an interest in our civic affairs by casting their vote. It is the privilege and duty of every citizen to do so.

The Poll will be held in the council Chambers at City Hall, Spokane Street, on Thursday, December 13, 1951 from 9 to 9.

Rotary club to Sponsor Clerk of Month contest

The Kimberley Rotary Club is sponsoring a Clerk of the Month Contest for the month of December. All clerks employed either full or part time during December are eligible. This is open to employees only.

Judges have been appointed from the general shopping public of Kimberley. The judges are known only to the Vocational Service Committee and are not even known to one another.

The idea behind this competition is to stimulate better service to the shopper, a better understanding between employer and employee and to bring to light the fact that effort is well rewarded.

The winning clerk will receive a prize of $25 and a scroll to be placed in the window of the store where the clerk is employed. The Kimberley Rotary club will host the clerk at the first meeting in January at which time the presentation will be made.

A bonus of "$75 will be paid to all eligible employees who started work before January 15, 1951 and continued in the company's employ to November 30, 1951. A bonus of $37.50 will be paid to all eligible employees who entered the company's employ after January 15 but before July 16 and continued in the Company's employ to November 30.
