New energy, new shows

There's a new energy in town and its name is the Kimberley Summer Theatre. It gets its energy from new ideas, new people and a new outlook. After taking a year's hiatus, the KST is back with a better and bigger format.

After thirteen years of presenting successful musical theatre to thousands of appreciative fans, the board of the KST decided to double the pleasure for the audiences this summer. In addition to a fun musical, "Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know", a collection of tips and stories about the highs and not so highs of being on the road, a great favorite stage play has been added.

The stage play that has everyone excited is "Lend Me a Tenor". This Ken Ludwig confection revolves around a high strung visiting opera tenor, his equally high strung wife and the collection of people in the host city that are attempting to juggle the ups and downs of a gala event. The shows will run alternating nights between Tuesday and Saturday from July 2 until August 17. The musical will run on odd numbered nights and the stage play will run on even numbered nights.

There will also be three bonus Sunday evening showings on July 3, 31 and August 14. The special mid-day show, presented on regular show days on the Platzl and funded primarily by your donations, returns as the Platzl Revue and promises to bring a new style to the always popular lunchtime treat.

The energy of this is provided by a talented, skilled and experienced group including

Kimberley's own Tim Plait and Cranbrook's Brent Gill. Also from Cranbrook, Tanya Laing Gahr joins Calgary's Truus Verkley to direct the shows. Nils Tiefenbach, Shandra McQueen and Lisa Aasebo round out the core group. Bob McCue, Kimberly Davidson, Amanda Ball and the pride of Kimberley, Cameron Lomon, are esteemed local members of the team.

And this is the new energy in town. Get out early to see the shows so you can be the one bragging to your friends that you've already experienced the new energy of Kimberley Summer Theatre 2011.
