This Saturday, June 11th, volunteers from the Kimberley Nature Park Society will be out in force to do some spring cleaning on a portion of the Trans Canada Trail that runs through the Park.
Spring is always a busy time for KNPS volunteers. Removing the trees and branches that winter storms knock down across trails and cleaning out the drainage ditches that keep the trails from eroding is an annual task. This year we have some additional work to remove some significant debris from the Trans Canada Trail that was left behind when fuel treatment crews thinned out the forest on slopes above the trail this winter. A portion of the Lower Army Road is heaped with branches, twigs and woodchips and with a creek on one side and a hill on the other, there is no room to push the material off the trail.
To make the trail hikeable and bikeable again, volunteers will be raking the debris into piles and loading it into pickup trucks to remove it from the Park.
More hands make light work, so if you would like to help tidy up the Trans Canada Trail, meet some great people and get some fresh air and exercise, phone Pam at 427-5198 for details.
