Kimberley teen wins Alberta championship

Fore! Look out golf world, here come Jared du Toit

Flanked by runners up Derek Roach and Greg Billingsley, of Calgary is Jared du Toit of Kimberley, winner of the MJT PGA of Alberta Championship last week.

It's been no secret around Kimberley golf courses that our community has a young golf star in the making. Jared Du Toit, just turned 16, has been burning up local courses for quite some time.

This week he is at Predator Ridge in Vernon with the Maple Leaf Junior Tour. But It was last week in Calgary, where young Jared Du Toit really made his mark.

Jared scored a record breaking 11 under par at the MJT's PGA of Alberta Junior Championship at McKenzie Meadows Golf Club in Calgary. He carded rounds of 66-66-72 to win Low Overall, the Boys 14-16 Title, and claim the international spot into the FCWT Notre Dame University event this October. The socre was the lowest recorded inthe 13 history of the MJT and six shots ahead of his closest competitor.

The Notre Dame event, says Dad Mike, is a big deal because a lot of scouts for US colleges attend.

"A golf scholarship is one of Jared's goals right now, Mike said. "This invitation is huge."

Mike says it's been a full golf summer and it's not over yet. Jared heads to Powell River after Vernon for the GC Juveniles. Watch the Bulletin for updates on Jared's summer progress.
