Kimberley's Terry Fox Run

Carolyn Grant

There was a certain spring in the step of the Kimberley Dynamiters at Sunday's Terry Fox Run, given their 15 to 5 victory over Creston the previous evening. The Dynamiters joined a big Kimberley turn out for the 31 annual run. Above are Brett, Braedon, Isaac, Riley, Dallon, Jared, Rylan, Connor, Brayden, Timo, Aurey, Mitch, Richard, Senate, Jeremy and Colton.

They run for different reasons, but Kimberley residents have always come out to support the Terry Fox Run and raise money for cancer research.

The Kimberley Dynamiters ran this year, as they have in several past years, as a team. Their mood was particularly good given their successful season opener against the Creston Valley Thundercats on Saturday evening.

Six-year-old Kayla Walker raised $77 on her own this summer, selling love bug rocks at the Village Market. She ran for her grandpa, who died of cancer.

The Run's youngest competitor was Gracie May Kusher, 25 days old. In fact Gracie wasn't due until this Wednesday, but her parents say maybe she arrived early so she could take part. This would actually be Gracie May's second cancer event. Her mother skied the Slopes for Hope this past winter while pregnant. Two of Gracie's grandparents are cancer survivors.

Everyone has a story or a reason for running. Organizer Darryl Oakley reminded participants that what they did was important. The Terry Fox Run has raised half a billion dollars for cancer research in the past 30 years, all because of people showing up to run.
