The Kimberley Dynamiters dropped a close game in Nelson against the Leafs and roared back to shut out the hapless Chase Heat at the Civic Centre over the weekend.
It was a close affair between the Leafs and the Nitros on Friday night as the Dynamiters succumbed to a 4-3 loss on the road, but vented their frustration the next night, blowing out the Chase Heat 8-0.
The Leafs outshot the Nitros in the first period, scoring the only goal of the frame off a marker from Colton Schell.
But the Nitros answered in the second, with a powerplay goal from Brennan Foreman less than a minute into the play. The Leafs responded shortly after on a powerplay goal of their own, which was potted by Matti Jmaeff, to regain the lead.
The third period featured back and fourth action, as both teams traded two sets of goals; Jordan Revie and Richard Hubscher for the Nitros and Brett Norman answering with two for the Nelson squad.
Braeden Ostepchuk stood between the pipes for the Dynamiter squad, stopping 23 of 27 shots.
Saturday night was a completely different result for the club against the Heat, as the Dynamiters scored three goals in the first period in their march towards a lopsided victory over the Chase club.
The carnage didn't stop there, with Isaac Schacher scoring off a point shot, and Jordan Bartusek poking a rolling puck past the Heat tender Russell Sanderson, who tried to play the biscuit in the slot.
Chase had their opportunities in the offensive zone, notably an odd-man rush, but Connor Kutzner was able to get his stick in the way to break up the play.
The onslaught of goals chased Sanderson from the pipes and Jordan Vallance came in to replace him, but the Nitros solved him less than a minute later when Rylan Duley scored. The Nitros kept up the attack and another goal soon followed off an effort from Colby Livingstone, who banged in a rebound off a breakaway by Dallin Wolfe.
The Heat managed to hold off the Nitros in the third, save one last buzzer-beating goal from Colton Vannucci.
Vannucci had a three-point night and was named first star of the evening, with Jeremy Mosseau capturing a shutout win between the pipes and earning the third star honour.
The Nitros will travel to Grand Forks next Friday to take on the Border Bruins before returning to Kimberley to face the Golden Rockets.
