Dynamiters president steps down

There's been a shakeup in the Kimberley Dynamiters front office, as President Rick Prasad steps down and long time volunteer and team Vice-President Dave Smith takes over.

"It has been a great season and Rick is stepping down for purely personal reasons," Smith said. "The Dynamiters would like to thank Rick very much for all of his hard work, dedication and leadership over the past several years. His enthusiasm and guidance will be greatly missed."

The Dynamiters are in a much more solid financial picture than they were a few years ago, when the organization had to begin fundraising to keep the team afloat.

This season has been particularly solid, with the Dynamiter franchise celebrating its 80th anniversary, and the addition of coach Roman Vopat has the team poised for a playoff run.

"Attendance is definitely up this year," Smith said. "Finances are stable and we have the Bull-O-Rama fundraiser coming up in May, which is big. We're in a solid financial position going into the next few years."

And this year is not over. The Nitros currently sit in second place in the Eddie Mountain Division and hopes are high for a deep playoff run.

"When Roman came on board he asked us what our expectations were," Smith said. "We said we hoped for first or second place and to go deep into the playoffs. We still expect a deep playoff run, hopefully out of our division. The team is really solid. The sky is the limit."

The Dynamiters play at home this Friday against the Columbia Valley Rockies.
