Driver in 2010 crash pleads not guilty

A young man charged over a fatal car accident in June 2010 pleaded not guilty in Cranbrook court on Monday.

Kyle Neidig, 25, is charged with criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death, and causing an accident resulting in death.

Charges were laid against Neidig last April but the accident occurred just outside Cranbrook on June 11, 2010.

RCMP described the accident as a "violent rollover crash". Twenty-three-year-old passenger Ian Shepherd died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle; an RCMP investigation found he was not wearing a seatbelt. Neidig was not injured in the crash.

On February 20, Neidig elected to go to trial in provincial court before a judge. Counsel estimated the trial will take three weeks. Neidig will be back in court March 5 to fix a date for the trial.
