N.L. chief of lab medicine resigns after drug testing errors discovered

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A high-ranking official with Newfoundland's largest health board has quit his position after drug testing errors were recently discovered.

Eastern Health CEO Vickie Kaminski announced Wednesday that Dr. Nash Denic, chief of laboratory medicine, has tendered his resignation.

This comes a day after Eastern Health released the findings of an internal review into the errors.

That review concluded that cyclosporine testing mistakes were not reported to executives in a timely manner.

Eastern Health says 212 patients were affected by the errors, eight of whom have since died, though it hasn't said whether there is a link between the mistakes and the deaths.

Cyclosporine is a drug used on patients whose immune systems are threatened by disease or as a result of an organ transplant.
